Investing? in our Future

Investing, such an interesting word to use by Obama as a code word for increased spending. In a way I feel sorry for people that think the government is the solution for all our problems.  So, maybe, if the right people read this, I might be able to shed some light on how well government investing has worked to date.

Tranportation
Amtrak: What  a money pit this has been. Trains can't run on schedule and all we can do to fix it pour more money into it. there is no competition to even force it to try to be solvent.
The Auto Industry: GM? it's now Government Motors and they announced they are building a plant in Mexico to build "Green" engines for their cars. Will that count in jobs saved?  Add the repressive guidelines for the auto industry on mileage, pollution and safety  to the high cost of union labor which has done nothing but add to the cost of manufacturing of autos.
NTSA: How well is that working? Anybody like the idea of a government program that trusts to luck and the inefficiency of the people trying to blow up our planes? They always seem to throw out the baby with the water when dealing with threats to the Airlines.

Education
Since the  Federal Government's "investment" in education, Schools have suffered, scores for children have dropped and we are losing an entire generation of children. How well has "No Child Left Behind" worked? Looks like the only ones to have benefited from this investment have been the Teachers' Unions. Add  the fact that with the Fed's takeover of student loans and  having it decide who gets a loan and what  course studies will be allowed doesn't sound like a recipe for success.

Banking
Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae. Need I say more on this? No, but I will. A prime example of how government is completely incapable of running anything concerned with making  or loaning money. Look what has happened to the housing industry in the last two years.

Health Care and Social Security
I truly think this, if not fixed soon, will be the straw that breaks the back of the US.  The above examples should be proof enough that the government can't be trusted to run a lemonade stand much less a program that encompasses at least 15 percent of our economy.

The Postal System
Why do we need this anymore? Just how many of us actually use  mail any more?  UPS and FedEx can do it faster and cheaper

This should be a lesson to all of us to remember What Ronald Reagan once said: "Government is not the solution to our problems. IT'S THE PROBLEM!"
Private industry when freed from the shackles of government restraint and and and the chokehold of  regulations can be the salvation of our economy.  How much help did Henry Ford have   from government investing with his assembly lines and the Model T? What about the computer industry? Most of the technology came from people working on ideas on their own. for example, Apple, Microsoft and Dell. These are examples of what can happen when free enterprise is allowed to flourish. This Country's economy can't survive much less thrive under such a staggering "investment".
I have a final thought on the subject. I do think there is a perfect spot for Government investment in our economy. Let's let them invest in Organized Crimeand the Drug Cartels.
With government controls and regulations, they would have the cost of drugs so high that no one could afford them in no time at all. Plus, it would be run so inefficiently that no drugs would most likely make into the coutry Who knows, it might be cheaper in the long run to do it this way than by combatting them the way we are now?

The Hypocrisy of the Left

Okay, Okay, I know this could be a book; but I'm going to hold this to just a few examples that really stand out.
Okay, where to begin? How about on bombings and such? Russia's Domodevo Airport get's bombed and it's an Act of Terrorism (Obama's words) but if it had happened here, it would hav been a "Man Caused Tragedy". Are only acts outside the US acts of terrorism or is this a way of keeping terrorist acts out of the country by simply calling them something else? Nice defense there, folks.
I give this next example with some trepidation. Mcveigh and Nichols blow up a government building and they are terrorists. Bill Ayers and the Weathermen blow up buildings and he is now a professor and friend of a President. Do not get me wrong, no form of human punishment will ever make up for the wholesale murder of the people in that building. God alone will do that.
Let's move onto morals. A Republican Congressman sends some emails to some underage interns and is "drummed" out of Congres. A Democrat takes an underage boy to a country where it's legal to have sex with him and he gets "censured" on the floor of Congress while his Democrat bretheren face away from the Speaker in a  show of solidarity for him.
Now on to spending. For years, Dems have ranted and railed about how the Bush Administration wasted money and spent us into debt with his "wars" and programs, yet when compared to this Administration, he's a cheapskate. GW can't hold a candle to the 1.4  Trillion in deficit spending being added to the debt annually.
I saved this for last because it really hits home for me. When Dems and Liberals rail against the government, they are merely exercising their Freedom of Speech. They can blow up buildings, trash streets, march in organized groups and get some very favorable press in the media. Hillary can say that it's our patriotic duty to disagree with a government that is wrong. Flip side: Tea Party'ers are villified in the media for disagreeing with the government and wanting less of it. They have been called everything from right wing nuts to domestic terrorists and racists for daring to take a stand againat a government that has become so bloated and intrusive as to be in every aspect of our daily lives. How many of you out there have been treated in a similar manner for your beliefs when talking with someone who thinks Obama is doing a good job? Okay there aren't many in our circles, but it has happened right?
I know there are many more examples out there, but it won't do any good to list them unless we do our part to expose the hypocrisy but going among the "heathen" to help them see the light by opening their eyes. You will never convince an idealogue, but there are a lot of people out there who are beginning to have their eyes opened. Those are the ones we need to reach. If each of us manage to get one person to change their mind, we have done something. And that, y'all, is how Real Change happens!

A "Lesson" in Civility?

Well, in the days following the shooting in Tuscon, I have heard a lot  about the need for for "civility" and that our rhetoric should be dialed back. Can some one explain that to me, please?
Could you also explain why it's wrong  for The Speaker of the House to say that Obamacare is a job killing bill, yet okay for a Congresswoman to say the the repeal of said Bill would "kill" Americans? I'd to inject a thought here if I may; if repealing Obamacare would kill Americans, then why is  the Bill spread out over such a long period of time? Isn't that also killing Americans? or is that something the Left doesn't want to talk about in this new era of civility?
Maybe someone could explain to me why Sarah Palin is condemned for her "Blood Libel" statement, yet a Congressman while speaking on the floor of the House can use the same term in comparing the Republican Party to Goebbels and the Nazis along with the Holocaust. Doesnt' sound too civil to me.
Explain this to me if you could. Why are people Like Glenn Beck and Mark Levin are crucified on a daily basis for their opinions and programs, yet Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews espouse whatever they wish with no thought of either the truth or civility?
Or, why we can't denounce the Muslim Extremists for what they truly are, yet it's allowable to have Homeland Security say that that gun owners, Conservatives and Veterans could be a source of domestic terrorism?
And finally, could someone please enlighten me on why it's racist to question Obama's agenda for this country? Should we, as Obama said in a speech, just go along for the ride "in the back of the bus"? I'm sure there was no racial undertone in that statement, was there?
I may be wrong here, but this  new civility seems to be nothing more than a thinly veiled form of politically correct censorship. By that I mean, the Left can say what it wants, but Conservatives must be careful in what and how they wish to project their message. I don't think that is what our Founding Fathers had in mind when they wrote the First Amendment to The Constitution concerning Free Speech or am I way off base here on that, also?

We The People.....

"We the People of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America".

I was listening to the radio yesterday and was intrigued by the fact that there are some people out there that don't think the Constitution should have been read at the opening of the new session of Congress. Some of the reasons were:"It's out of date", "It took too much  time", It cost too much to have the members do it".
Okay, now I would like to offer my thoughts on this. I think it was great for them to have to do this if for no other reason than to remind them of what they are there to do.
The Constitution is several things to me. First, it is a blue print for our country. It lays  out what the government can do and more importantly WHAT IT CAN'T!, which seems to have been lost on it until recently.
Secondly, it is a contract between us and the people who represent us in the government. Just listen to the oath of office that all of us took when we joined the military and it is the same one that the members of the government have to take also. It gives us the right to fire  members of Congress when we don't think they are doing their jobs as we want them to, just as the recent election proved.
And the final reason is that it's a manual on how the government should work. And that's why we should all have a working knowledge of the Constitution in order to protect ourselves from the government. It's like taking your car to the mechanic and having no idea what he's talking about as he runs up the bill for things you know nothing about, but should since you are the owner of that car. This last point was driven home by one caller who said that we shouldn't have to deal with knowing the Constitution because that's why we have the government. We elected it to take care of things like that for us. Well, we can see how well that's been working up til now. I would like to pose the following question to y'all: Have you ever hired or contracted someone and said,"I don't care, just do it and send me the bill. I trust you."?
The point I'm trying to make is that we can no longer afford the luxury of apathy and letting the other person be involved if we want to restore the United States back into what our Founding Fathers envisoned: A Government of the People, for the People and BY THE PEOPLE!

Cowboys? In The Movies

You know, after wating the new version of True Grit, I got to pondering on just how many actors and actresses you never would have dreamed of actually have been in a Western.   I don't mean as a bit character or in a parody, but in a major role in a movie.  this only reaffirms my belief that there is a little bit of cowboy in all of us.See what you think and feel free to add to the list.

  • Marylin Monroe - River of No Return.
  • James Cagney and Humphrey Bogart - The Oklahoma Kid. Okay this was just the Roaring Twenties out west but it still qualifies.
  • Kevin Kline and Jeff Golblum - Silverado. The western version of the Big Chill
  • Fred Astaire? Yes it's true and I'm going to let y'all research to figger out the title.
  • Tony Curtis
  • Doris Day
  • Natalie Wood
  • Rick Nelson
  • Matt Damon - True Grit
  • Jayne Mansfield
  • Pat O'Brien - Yup, Knute Rockne went western.
  • Frank Sinatra - The "Rat Pack" made several westerns.
  • Etc.....
I think this this proves my point that there is a little cowboy in all of us. Some of us got to "cowboy" for a while; while still others get to prove everyday that is not what they do but who they are!

God Bless the American Cowboy!

New Year's Resolutions For Congress

Well, another year has come and gone. And with the coming New Year, there is some optimism among most of the people in this country that we may be getting back on the right track after the November elections.

So, to help our new Congress get off on the right foot, I propose some New Year’s Resolutions to help them keep some of the promises they made while campaigning. Here goes:

• Reduce Federal Spending by 20%.

• Do away with the FCC.

• No Earmarks, PERIOD!

• Put a one year moratorium on dividend income.

• Investigate and vet every “czar”.

• Rollback Discretionary Spending.

• Agree to abide by the laws you enact.

• All bills or laws cannot exceed four pages. If the founding Fathers can create a government in that few pages, why can’t y’all run one in the same amount?

• Reduce your staffs by 15%. Many businesses have had to do more with less, it’s about time y’all did too.

• Take a 20% pay cut.

• Defund Obama-care.

• Stiffen penalties for Congressional Misconduct. If we break the law, we go to jail, y’all get censured?

• Do not attempt to pass any bill that would usurp the 10th Amendment under the guise of the Commerce Act. In fact, y’all might even consider repealing the Commerce Act.

• Limit the powers of the IRS.

• Secure all the borders.

• Forget all about Cap and Trade.

• Expose Global Warming for the hoax it is.

• Lift all drilling bans and moratoriums.

• Stop funding for all energy programs. The private sector can do it cheaper and better.

• Rewrite the START Treaty so we don’t give away our right to defend ourselves

Well, I could go on for a while but as we all know the fewer resolutions we make, the better chance we have of following thru on them. I know there isn’t much chance of Congress doing any of these, much less all of them. But, as long as we hold the power of the ballot box over them, we can still hold their feet to the fire.

Happy New Year!
